A storyboard in one evening instead of a week
The pilot with Moskino proved demand before we started writing the production version.
One decision
Problem
A director hands the script to an artist and waits a week. By then the idea has moved on and the drawings are already paid for. There is nothing to show and nothing to discuss, so notes pile up in someone's head.
Solution
The script splits into scenes, each goes into frame generation. Frames assemble into an animatic with timing and sound, so what you watch is the future clip rather than a pile of pictures.
Result
A full pass takes an evening. Editing one scene rebuilds only that scene, the rest stay put, and the discussion runs on finished material.
What turned out to be hard
Generation does not hold one character from frame to frame: the face and the clothes drift. We had to pin the character description as a separate entity and mix it into every scene. That falls short of solving the problem, and it does make a storyboard readable.
